2 Black Owned Luxury (and Fly) Bag Brands You Can Buy Now Until Telfar Restocks
If you’re like me, you completely missed the Telfar drop today due to bots hijacking it and buying up all the bags before you even had a chance.
When I got the email notification that the Tan Shopping Bag was back in stock at 7:49 am, I was excited to go over and try and snag it! I had just woken up at 8 am so it COULDN’T be gone already… and yet, it was. Now, as someone who has tried my luck regularly during sneaker drops, I know the feeling of defeat when you don’t get the item you have been vying for. Funny enough, this time the initial feeling wasn’t the same because I was more confused than anything. I thought “maybe Telfar sent the email out late…” or “hmmm…was everyone up at 7 am for the drop or something??” Strange.
A few hours later, I was scrolling through Twitter and found out the truth. Some wack group, who apparently always uses bots to buy up sneakers, had decided to bring their raggedy selves over to the purse brand Telfar and use the same tactics. The goal is to buy up everything and then resell them for a profit. Yet, the thing about Telfar, and the way their bags are priced, is to avoid the “access only” vibe from their brand and to ensure that everyone can afford something nice in their life. Their bags are priced between $202 for the smallest one and $257 for the largest shopping bag I was trying to snag.
I think some people (namely the men) on Twitter misunderstood why people were mad about the resellers calling it “the nature of business- supply and demand”. Telfar not only makes their bags affordable, but they also use the funds they receive to directly give back to the black community. Now, I saw that the main reseller who tweeted about the fact that they use the bots to do this, was black but who is to say if other resellers who do this are black. Like, the point is to uplift black people. For us, by us, right? If you are scheming and overcharging YOUR people for a product, how is that helpful to anyone but you? I think his thinking was, “we do this with Jordans and he’s black” but the difference is, the Jordan brand is part of Nike. Nike is not a black-owned brand.
So, let’s support our black-owned brands and not try and make a buck off of your people in such a greedy way.
So, if you’re reading this and want to purchase a Telfar bag, they released this on their Instagram as they are trying to weed out any bots/people who purchased using bots.
Once the site is back up (they took it down to make it better for real people), go on and grab you one sis!
Since we don’t know when that will be, I have a list of black-owned brands that have released some handbags that I think are really cute. Check the links below!
So y’all let me know what you think of these brands! Make sure you’re subscribed so you can get the exclusive as soon as possible!
