Nothing tends to go the way we planned it...

When I started posting makeup pics on Instagram, I just KNEW KeriKontours would take off as a brand and ya girl would be “living the dream!”… whatever that meant.

I mean, I really didn’t have an idea or vision about what that looked like on a macro level because I thought, “everyone keeps asking me about makeup so… let’s put it all in one place”. What I lacked in know-how, I more than made up for in confidence (and honestly that’s how I am with most things thanks to being raised by my Leo parents).

After a year of gaining more experience and learning about “the average makeup influencer”, I realized that I had painted myself into a corner. I realized the beauty community did not fulfill who I was in my spirit at all. Once I started learning all of the “makeup players”, I realized that there was always some kind of petty drama, arguing, and infighting which was waaaaay too much for me. I truly did not care about the drama and with how quickly the drama would transition, could not keep up with it, even if I wanted to.

I called myself taking a break from KeriKontours IG due to family circumstances and, really, now that I think about it, I was “over” the beauty community in general. I already had enough on my plate. But in taking the break, I got the time I needed to really think. I was able to take the time to ask myself, “what does Keri want?” not “what can I mimic to get “success”?”.

I don’t know how many of you relate to the story of the phoenix, but, a phoenix burns itself up and uses its own ashes to create a new version of itself. I feel like I’ve been at least 4 different versions of myself in my life and the newest version is currently emerging. Smack dab in the middle of a pandemic, where nothing is guaranteed and nothing is going the way I (or anyone really) thought it should. I welcome the change, which increases my growth and it makes me excited for what’s to come no matter how unfamiliar that may be. So.

Welcome to the new version of Keri Kontours, where we will share in experiencing this new version of life via beauty, music, fashion, lifestyle, and travel together. I’m excited to go on this new journey of discovery.
