4 Ways to Style a Summer Wardrobe Staple
I love a good staple item in my wardrobe. Give me a bomb sequined piece, a token belt or earring to jazz up a look, then give me a basic tee and a cute pair of sneakers to dress a look down. Today, we style a simple racerback top, up AND down.
A racerback top is such a great staple item to have in your wardrobe for summer because of its versatility. Racerback shirts show off your shoulders and depending on what you choose as your bottoms, can help enhance your figure.
Since I am rather busty, I appreciate that these tops are full tops that go to the waist because in the summer that is really difficult to find and they aren’t very aggressively cut so I can wear a regular bra with it.
I purchased these two tops in black and white for $13 each from ASOS.com which I was extremely happy with price-wise!
For my dressed up look, I chose to pair the white racerback with these American Eagle high waisted X-Long Mom jeans ($37.50) and my ICCONIC Bow multi satin mules ($112) from Pnkelephant. I paired these with a custom name choker, gold hoops and this cute, snakeskin crossbody from ASOS ($29). If I were to upgrade this look, I would choose a really cute and vibrant pink lipstick to elevate this look.
For a more relaxed look, I paired the white racerback with a leopard skirt from Shein ($14) and my favorite sandals right now, the coral dad sandals from ShopICCON ($109). I went for a more relaxed jewelry look with my ‘evil eye’ necklace and a neutral lip for more of a daytime vibe. I chose to swap in some black marble earrings ($9.50) from ASOS as well.
The black racerback top was paired with this gorgeous satin skirt ($45) that I got from NastyGal last year and these low top “Old Skool” Vans ($60) along with these medium gold hoops that I got from ASOS. I finished off this look with this cute, floral, Kate Spade bag I got years ago but continues to be my go to ‘on the run’ bag. A small bag just to grab when you need to run out real quick is a necessary staple.
My last look is my most relaxed pairing with the black racerback and a pair of these really cute, flowy, graphic pants I thrifted from Buffalo Exchange in DC. I loooove Buffalo Exchange for thrifting but honestly, any thrift store will do. You can always find something really cool in the good thrift stores. My suggestion is go to the higher end part of your town and rack up. You will find some STEALS! Anywho, these pants were only like $8. Love them! I finished them off with some black strappy Birkenstocks that my mom got from Germany when we went a few years ago. They were half price over there since that’s where they are made so this was my least expensive outfit for this collection. My jewelry was a tiny nameplate necklace from MyNameNecklace.com.
There are many, MANY other ways to style these tops but I was limited by my current access to wardrobe (all my stuff is in storage) so starting with one piece and building many looks from there is how you build a successful wardrobe. Buying and having staple pieces like these allow for you to play around with dressing up a look or dressing down a look. Let me know what you think of these pieces and how they were styled!
